----------------------------------- There are areas on the north slope that are open for lease outside of ANWR that no one is drilling, use those areas. ----------------------------------- It was Jeb Bush's request to the Fed's a few years ago that extended the block on drilling on the offshore shelf around Florida, too close to home. Still in effect! More power than the environmentalist have. -----------------------------------

Drivers are slowing down everywhere. Speed limits could be brought down to 60 mph. They went down to 55 mph in the late 1970s, and we saved a lot of gasoline.

I would hope so. I am still passed on the interstate by idiots driving gas guzzling SUV's and 4 wheel drive trucks at 75 MPH. Gas is clearly not too expensive for a substantial segment of our population.

All we can do is worry about ourselves. If other people want to waste there is nothing we can really do about it. Unfortunately, "one bad apple..."

Some people have resolved themselves to the high price of gas; it's no longer a shock, so they went back to their old driving habits

Some have slowed down but many will pass you on the major highways when you are going the speed limit. So there is very, very little 'easing off the pedal as gasoline prices rise'....

I traveled over the long weekend in the USA. Most people were doing about 60. But what I noticed was the number of cars vs SUVs on the road. Most people who have both opted for the car instead of the SUV. I traveled this same route two years ago, and there were a LOT more SUVs on the road. And people were driving faster then too.

for the rest of the Americans out there 120kph = 74.5mph 100kph = 62.1mph

Our Governor is talking about changing our speed limit from 70 to 60 on the freeways here in Michigan. On NPR this morning, someone was talking about bringing back the 55mph speed limit!

My mileage increases from 23mpg to 30mpg when I reduce the speed from 65-70 down to 45-50. I would do this constantly if 1) I wansn't creating a burden on traffic and 2) It didn't take so damn long to get anywhere.

To DC and back this weekend. I did the usual +10MPH, was steadily passed and passed a few +5MPHers. Saw NO ONE doing the limit. Went through 10-12 radar setups at +10 and was never pursued. Had one pass me while the cruise was set at 77 (in a 65). So +10MPG is still good.

There isn't much common sense on the road. People are always in a rush to go. I don' know how we lived without cell phones. Almost everybody has one stuck to their ear, even while driving. Little things save fuel and lives. Slow down, STOP at stop signs and put that dam cell phone away and pay attention to driving.
